Why You Should Incorporate a Yearly Hearing Evaluation Into Your Health Routine
Posted by Shea Hearing Aid Center on January 17, 2014
Most people recognize that it’s a good habit to see your eye doctor and primary physician yearly and your dentist twice a year. One check-up that you may be forgetting is coming to see us – your local hearing professional for a yearly hearing evaluation!
Just like your primary physician requests a yearly examination to check your overall health, we like to see you once per year to check your overall hearing health. We want you to come in to tell us how your hearing aids have been functioning over the past year. Has your hearing loss progressed? Do your hearing aids need a cleaning? Are you suffering from any discomfort? Hearing loss can change over time so we may need to adjust your hearing aids so they work their best for you.
We especially recommend that patients who work in loud environments, have tinnitus, are 55 years or older or take ototoxic medications come in once per year. Ototoxic drugs negatively affect the ear, specifically the cochlea, and include antibiotics, diuretics and certain chemotherapy drugs.
